SANJIESAN LICENSING / BUYING GUIDE

Choose subtitles or a voice version around the actual viewing situation

A partner film may be watched silently on a display, with sound in a presentation, or through a small personal screen. Those settings can call for different language work. Before requesting subtitles or a new voice track, describe where the audience will encounter the piece. This is a service-comparison method, not a claim that a specific film has been translated, recorded or tested with viewers.

Use a difficult representative passage

Choose a short authorised passage with a proper name, a picture change and a key explanatory sentence. Supply the approved source wording and pronunciation references that actually exist. Keep unresolved names as questions. Compare how the information would be read or heard with the picture, rather than assuming a line-for-line translation will fit the same timing. The sample should expose the task without requiring a complete recording first.

Compare the actual delivered versions

A subtitle proposal should describe the reviewed text and the files needed by the chosen playback route. A voice proposal should describe script adaptation, performance review and the delivered sound, with picture or mix work explicitly included or excluded in the brief. Name the revision stage before final timing is committed. Avoid comparing a text-only quote with a finished audio-and-picture version as if they covered identical work.

Choose for the encounter and the maintenance

If the setting is usually silent, a voice version alone leaves the main need unanswered. If listening is essential, subtitles alone may not provide the intended experience. Choose the combination the actual context requires, with any access needs described explicitly. Keep future text changes and source-version references with the handoff, so the next correction does not accidentally pair an old translation with a revised film.
