SANJIESAN LICENSING / Relief concepts

A relief concept needs more than a dramatic front render

A rendered relief can depend heavily on one attractive lighting setup. Before using that image as the whole development brief, prepare views that make the shape easier to inspect. This is a design-review method for a proposed object, not a claim that a particular material or fabrication process will reproduce the render.

Separate the outline from the lighting

Show a plain silhouette and an untextured shape reference beside the dramatic render. Identify which features are needed to recognise the scene or character. If recognition depends entirely on a painted detail or a shadow that appears in only one view, make that dependency visible. Keep the established source image nearby so reviewers can distinguish a proposed dimensional interpretation from a change to the original character identity.

Compare the same shape under different views

Keep the proposed geometry fixed and make a small set of views with different directions or plain illumination. Label them as visual studies. Look for details that merge, disappear or become unexpectedly dominant. Record the specific area that needs discussion rather than compensating with more elaborate lighting. A partner needs to understand the intended form, not merely reproduce the mood of one presentation image.

Ask for evidence suited to the depth question

If the remaining issue concerns physical depth or surface treatment, discuss a specimen that can actually demonstrate it. Include the intended viewing context and the source reference in that conversation. Do not convert a renderer’s shadow into a numeric production specification. Close the visual review by stating what is understood and what still requires input from the appropriate production specialist.
