SANJIESAN LICENSING / Artwork placement
Show the seam when submitting wraparound artwork
A front photograph can make a wraparound design look complete while hiding where the two ends meet. Before a partner reviews a curved-object concept, prepare a view of that join. This is a paper planning exercise; it does not establish manufacturing tolerances or replace a supplier’s production proof.
Ask for the actual placement area
Request the supplier’s current placement template for the proposed object and process. Keep its revision and units with the artwork. Mark the suggested front, join and any excluded area on a copy for discussion; do not infer the usable surface from a product photograph. If the supplier has not supplied a template, keep the dimensions unresolved rather than presenting a guessed wrap as production-ready.
Make the join visible on a paper specimen
Place the cleared concept artwork on a disposable paper copy of that template. Wrap it around a plain stand-in and photograph the front, both sides and join. Keep the stand-in clearly labelled; it is not the finished product. Look for an accidentally divided face, a word crossing the join or a motif disappearing behind another panel. Record the issue against the exact visual revision.
Keep creative revision separate from permission
Return the flat layout and all specimen views as one review set. If a character needs cropping or a pose adjustment, ask the appropriate owner before treating that alteration as available artwork. The U.S. Copyright Office discusses permission for new versions of protected work in its U.S. guidance. Have the actual project’s rights reviewer resolve the intended alteration and market; then obtain a process-specific proof from the supplier.
