SANJIESAN LICENSING / BUYING GUIDE

Choose a short sonic mark or a narrated introduction by its role

A brief sound at the end of a clip and a spoken introduction to a fictional world do not solve the same problem. One may provide a recurring cue; the other carries information. Before commissioning audio, identify which role the collaboration needs. These are proposed creative services, with no existing recording, performer agreement or product offer represented as complete.

Describe what the listener should understand

Write a plain listening task: recognise a recurring closing cue, understand a short premise or hear a character’s proposed line. Keep a branded cue, a narrator and an established character voice separate in the brief. Do not invent a canonical voice or dialogue merely to populate the audio request. Provide the approved wording and identity reference where the task depends on them, with unresolved creative choices clearly marked.

Compare a sample in its intended context

Ask the proposal to explain what a review sample will contain and how it will be heard with the planned picture or interface. A cue should be considered alongside the surrounding sound; narration should be reviewed with the actual information sequence. Include language, pronunciation and any intended versions in the scope. Keep revisions to words distinct from revisions to performance or composition so their work is understandable before recording.

Choose the deliverable and reuse question together

Name the required final audio forms, editable material if genuinely needed, and the intended places the work will appear. Ask the responsible provider to clarify the actual permissions for the proposed uses and any third-party contributions. Choose a smaller cue when recognition is the task, or a narrated piece when explanation is essential. A longer recording is not automatically a better purchase if it leaves the listener’s original question unanswered.
