SANJIESAN LICENSING / BUYING GUIDE

Commission a partner pitch or an asset catalogue for its actual reader

A short pitch and a detailed asset catalogue can use the same pictures while doing different work. One introduces a collaboration idea; the other helps a team locate and understand available references. Before commissioning a presentation designer, choose the intended reader and task. A polished deck is useful only when its structure fits that task, and no asset listing by itself establishes commercial permission.

Define the reading encounter

For a pitch, describe the decision the recipient should be able to discuss after a short reading. For a catalogue, describe the reference they should be able to retrieve, such as a confirmed character image with its current status. Explain whether the document will be presented live or read alone. Keep the available source material honest; do not ask the designer to invent a track record, audience metric or finished product to fill a persuasive slide.

Request a representative working sample

Ask for one difficult section rather than only a decorative cover. A pitch sample might explain the proposed contribution of both partners. A catalogue sample might connect an identity record, several visual versions and their source references. Compare whether the sample makes that relationship understandable. Editable text, navigation and future updating needs should be named where they matter, instead of being assumed from the visual appearance of a PDF.

Choose the document that supports the next decision

When the next meeting concerns whether to explore an idea, a bounded pitch may be enough. When a team already needs to choose accurate working references, a catalogue task may deserve priority. A combined proposal should price and describe the two functions separately without implying that more pages are automatically better. Keep source verification and rights decisions assigned to their responsible owners; presentation design organises the material but does not create those answers.
